Jasenov (Hungarian Várjeszenő - until 1907 Jeszenő ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,193 (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Humenné of, a circle kraj Prešovský heard.
geography
The municipality is located on the northern slope of the Humenské vrchy not far from the Vihorlat Mountains . The Jasenovský creek flows through the village and flows into the Laborec after Jasenov . The highest point in the almost 13.27 km² large municipal area is the Krivoštianka with 549 m nm. The center is at an altitude of 155 m nm and is 3.5 kilometers from Humenné .
Neighboring municipalities are Humenné in the north, Ptičie in the east, Chlmec in the southeast, Oreské and Staré in the south, Strážske in the southeast and Brekov in the west.
history
Jasenov was first mentioned in writing in 1279 as Jesenew and developed from a settlement below the Jasenov castle . Both are named after the ash trees (Slovak: jaseň ) that occur in the area . The village belonged to the Drugeth family from the 14th to the 17th century , Dernáth in the 18th century and Andrássy in the 19th century . In 1567 a tax of 5.5 porta was due, in 1582 of 5.75 porta, but in the 17th century the inhabitants became impoverished (1610: 1.5 porta). In 1828 there were 61 houses and 453 inhabitants who were employed in forestry and agriculture.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
From 1971 to 1990 Jasenov was part of Humenné.

According to the 2011 census, Jasenov had 1,174 inhabitants, 1104 of whom were Slovaks, 22 Russians, eight Ukrainians, three Germans and Roma and two Czechs. 32 residents gave no answer. 1002 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 65 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 15 residents to the Orthodox Church, eight residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Jehovah's Witnesses. 34 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 46 residents has not been determined.
