Jehanabad is a district in the Indian state of Bihar .
The area is 931 km². The administrative seat is the city of Jehanabad .
history
The Barabar Caves are located in the Jehanabad District. They are the oldest preserved rock caves in India and mostly date from the Maurya period (322–185 BC).
Jehanabad became a district in 1986 when it was split off from Gaya .
population
The population in 2011 was 1,125,313. The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 21.68% and was therefore very high. Jehanabad has a gender ratio of 931 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 66.80% in 2011 , an increase of almost 11 percentage points compared to 2001. This means that literacy is below the national average. Almost 93% of the population are Hindus and around 7% are Muslim .
