Yehoshua Rabinowitz ( Hebrew יְהוֹשֻׁעַ רָבִּינוֹבִיץ, * November 12, 1911 in Vishnewo ; † 14. August 1979 ) was an Israeli politician of Avoda and ministers .

Life

After attending school and visiting the teachers' college of Vilnius , he was a teacher and principal in Poland active and active member of the He-Chaluz movement. In 1934 he moved to Israel , where he worked for the “Mashbir la-Zarchan” cooperative . At the same time he completed a degree in economics and law in Tel Aviv . As a member of the board of directors of the Union of Consumer Cooperatives , he was one of the leaders of this movement and at the same time an active member of the Hagana .

After the establishment of the State of Israel, he became a member of the Tel Aviv City Council in 1955 and then vice-mayor and treasurer of the city from 1959 to 1969 . In 1969 he finally became mayor of Tel Aviv as the successor to Mordechai Namir .

Subsequently, he was in the last government of Prime Minister Golda Meïr from March 10 to June 3, 1974 Housing Minister . In the subsequent cabinet of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin he was finance minister until June 20, 1977 . From June 13, 1977 until his death he was a member of the Knesset , where he represented the interests of the Avoda and was a member of the finance committee. After his death, Esther Herlitz replaced him in the Knesset.
