Joseph Borġ
Joseph Borġ [ ˈdʒoʊzɪf bɔɹtʃ ] (called Joe Borġ ) (born March 19, 1952 in Malta ) is a Maltese politician. He belongs to the Nationalist Party and was EU - European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries .
Career in Malta
Joseph Borġ received his doctorate in law from the University of Malta in 1975 . From 1976 to 1989 he worked in his profession, partly at the university, partly in the private sector.
From 1989 to 1995 he worked, among other things, in the EU policy department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the Economic Office and in the Maltese Central Bank. In 1995 he was elected to the Maltese House of Representatives, where he sat until 2004. Among other things, he was shadow minister for industry from 1996 to 1998 with responsibilities for the EU. From 1998 to 1999 he was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Parliament. He was then foreign minister of his country until 2004.
Careers in the EU
On May 1, 2004, when Malta joined the EU, he became EU Commissioner. It was not until he was with Poul Nielson Commissioner for Development , November 2004 to February 2010 he was fishing and sea Commissioner . His head of cabinet was the German Michael Köhler .

Joseph Borġ is married and has two children.
