The Kölpinsee is the Mecklenburg Lake belonging lake in the district Mecklenburg Lake District , Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . It has a maximum width of around five kilometers and a length of around seven kilometers. The average depth is 3.5 meters. It lies between the Müritz in the east and the Fleesensee in the west and the Elde flows through it from east to west. There is a connection to both lakes that is also used for excursion boats. There is also an unspoilt connection to Jabelschen See , which is located in the north, and which can be used by pleasure craft.

The entire Kölpinsee is part of the federal waterway Müritz-Elde waterway with waterway class I; The Lauenburg Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .

The Kölpinsee is away from large settlements and is surrounded by forests in several nature reserves (nature reserve Damerower Werder , nature reserve Blüchersches Bruch and Mittelplan ). The bison enclosure on the Damerower Werder peninsula on the northwest bank of the Kölpinsee is well known. The name of the lake is of Pomoran origin and means something like swan lake (kolpa = swan, cf. Sorbian kołp ).
