Kachchh ( Gujarati કચ્છ , "land on the seashore"; English Kutch or Cutch ) was a princely state of British India north of the Kathiawar peninsula in what is now the state of Gujarat between the Gulf of Kachchh and Pakistan . Much of the country is taken by the Kachchh Rann . According to legend, the Rajput state with the capital Bhuj has existed since 1147. In 1591 it came under the sovereignty of the Mughals . In 1697 the Principality of Morvi was created through the division of inheritance .

The Raos of Kachchh assumed the title of Maharajadhiraj Mirza Maharao in 1757 . 1815–1947 the principality was a British protectorate (→ British India ).

Kachchh had in 1941 an area of ​​21,364 km² and 591,000 inhabitants. In 1946, coins denominated in Kori were issued ; banknote patterns exist. On May 1, 1949, the annexation to India followed and in 1956 with the States Reorganization Act, the incorporation into the state of Bombay . Kachchh has belonged to the state of Gujarat since 1960 .
