Kuibyshev ( Russian Куйбышев ) is a city in Novosibirsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 45,299 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). It should not be confused with the city of Samara , which was also named Kuibyshev from 1935 to 1990.
geography
The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian lowlands , about 300 km west of the oblast capital Novosibirsk , on the Om River , a right tributary of the Irtysh . The climate is continental.
The city of Kuibyshev is administratively directly subordinate to the Oblast and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
history
Kuibyshev was established at its current location in 1772 and received city rights as Kainsk in 1782 . The city was given its current name in 1935 , after the Soviet politician Valerian Kuibyshev .
