The 22 Canadian general election ( english 22nd Canadian General Election , French 22e élection fédérale canadienne ) took place on August 10 1953rd 265 deputies were elected the Canadian House of Commons (Engl. House of Commons , fr. Chambre des Communes ).

The vote

Prime Minister Louis Saint-Laurent led the Liberal Party to an election victory for the second time, despite the fact that it gained a slightly smaller share of the vote and lost 22 seats to other parties. For the fifth time in a row the Liberals were able to form the government. The Progressive Conservative Party with George Alexander Drew , former Prime Minister of Ontario , at the top it was not possible as early as 1949, to significantly improve and remained in opposition.

The Inuit were eligible to vote for the first time . The turnout was 67.5%.
