The Royal Danish Academy of Art ( Danish : Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi ), based in Charlottenborg Palace at Kongens Nytorv 1 in Copenhagen's old town, is one of Denmark's 20 state art schools . It was founded in 1754 as Det Kongelige Danske Skildre-, Billedhugger- og Bygnings-Academie i Kiøbenhavn . In 1771 the name was first renamed to Maler-, Billedhugger- og Bygnings-Academiet , and in 1814 a second to Det Kongelige Academie for de skjønne Kunster . Since a comprehensive restructuring in 1968, the name has been Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi .

The art academy is under the supervision of the Danish Ministry of Culture , which is also responsible for funding these institutions.

The art academy is divided into several independent institutions:

  • Universities of Fine Arts (Danish: Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademis billedkunstskoler ) in Charlottenborg Palace. The principal is Mikkel Bogh . The subjects offered range from painting , sculpture and graphics to photography and video art .
