Laurence John "Larry" Fishburne III (born July 30, 1961 in Augusta , Georgia ) is an American actor .

Life

Laurence Fishburne was already on a stage in New York City at the age of ten . At twelve, he made his camera debut portraying Joshua Hall in the 1973 TV soap opera One Life to Live. He made his cinema debut in 1975 in the film Cornbread, Earl and Me . Fishburne, with a white lie about his age, got himself the role of a young soldier in Francis Ford Coppola's anti-war film Apocalypse Now . Later he could be seen in three other films by Coppola. During the 1980s, Fishburne was featured in many supporting roles in both cinema and television. His work as an actor includes more than 100 film and television productions.

Fishburne studied acting at Lincoln Square Academy in New York and changed his name from Larry to Laurence in 1991 .

His role in Boyz N 'the Hood from 1991 gave Fishburne its breakthrough. The next year he won a Tony Award for his theatrical performance in August Wilson's Two Trains Running . In 1993 he received an Emmy for his guest appearance on an episode of the short-lived television series Tribeca . The following year he received an Oscar nomination for the impersonation of Ike Turner in the film Tina - What's Love Got to Do with It? .

Today Fishburne is best known for his role Morpheus , the mentor of Neo ( Keanu Reeves ) in the successful science fiction trilogy Matrix . Fishburne's directorial debut took place in 2000 with his production With all Harshness based on his own script, in which he also took on the lead role. This was his only directorial work so far.

Between 2008 and 2011, Fishburne was one of the main characters in the series CSI: On the trail of the perpetrators . In the series he played the role of Dr. Raymond Langston . Previously, William Petersen, one of the main characters, had left the series. In this role, Fishburne also made guest appearances in the two spin-off series CSI: Miami and CSI: NY . From April 2013 to 2015 he starred in the supporting role of special agent Jack Crawford on the NBC series Hannibal .

Fishburne married actress Hajna O. Moss in 1985. The marriage resulted in two children (* 1987, * 1991). The couple separated in the 1990s. On September 20, 2002, Fishburne married actress Gina Torres . In June 2007, their daughter Delilah was born. In September 2017, the couple announced the split. In addition to acting, Fishburne is also a UNICEF ambassador.
