action

The four seniors Billy, Paddy, Archie and Sam have been friends since childhood in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn . When the rich Billy is planning to marry Lisa, who is almost 40 years his junior, the four friends meet for a bachelorette party in Las Vegas . To do this, Archie first has to escape his very caring son Ezra, who has treated his father like an underage child since a stroke. Sam, however, receives permission from his wife Miriam for an affair, which she wants to get her sleepy sex life going again. Only Paddy has completely withdrawn from his circle of friends after the death of his wife Sophie and lives morosely into the day. He also fell out with Billy and hasn't spoken to him for a while. The three friends only manage to lure Paddy to Vegas with a trick.

Already at the first meeting, Paddy and Billy clash because he did not attend Sophie's funeral. The four of them meet Diana in Binion's Gambling Hall and are enchanted by her singing - which Diana, in turn, enjoys. She is divorced, the daughter has left the house, she was fired and was now looking for her way as a bar singer. You have a drink together, have fun, and Diana joins the gentlemen who want to check-in at the Aria Resort and Casino.

There Archie goes to a blackjack table and puts half of his pension funds in the hope of being able to put his illness-related misery behind him. When Paddy and Sam return from the room, Archie has already won over $ 100,000. Meanwhile, Billy visits the wedding chapel with Diana; they flirt violently and enjoy each other.

The manager of the casino gives the four friends the best hotel suite - in the expectation that Archie will gamble away his winnings again. Billy pulls a bottle of whiskey from his suitcase that they took with them as boys from a shop in Flatbush. He wants to celebrate their reunion with it, but Paddy reproaches him (again) for his absence at Sophie's funeral, insults all three as lying and disappears. Others go to the hotel's nightclub, which is popular with young people. There they will learn some wisdom about old grandpas and young brides. When a cheeky quarrel starts, Paddy comes out of the background and "settles" the case with a punch.

The next morning, Billy, Archie, and Sam recover from their hangover. Paddy, who feels new strength after the boxing, goes to Diana and starts talking to her. He tells her that he and his friend Billy were in love with the same girl (Sophie) and that she chose him, Paddy. Diana advises him to end his grieving, because Sophie certainly did not want that. He gives in, obviously she did it to him. The four of them later meet at the pool and Paddy confesses to Billy that he wants to bury his anger; at the same time he asks Billy if he really wants to marry a woman so much younger.

The pool scene ends with them preparing a huge bachelorette party, including the young women from the night before, exotic dancers and a transvestite band.

Billy is now looking for Diana in her bar. While walking on the strip, she asks him if he really loves his bride Lisa. She confesses her affection for him and lures the story out of him: Paddy had asked Sophie to make a decision, she had decided on Billy; he had made it clear to her that her place was with Paddy.

In the evening, when the party is in full swing, the old men learn the opposite of the previous evening: Paddy finally takes off his wedding ring, Archie dances with the professionals and enjoys the applause, Sam lets himself be seduced by the bridesmaid from the previous evening - almost ...

Paddy tells Billy that he invited Diana because he fell in love with her; but he has to find out that he has a rival again in Billy. When she appears, Billy demands that she renounce him in favor of Paddy. However, she doesn't want to be a “gift” like Sophie back then. Paddy hears this by chance and is devastated. The old whiskey bottle ends up in the trash.

The next morning Lisa appears and hears from Paddy that nothing can come of the marriage with Billy because he doesn't really love her. He, Paddy, wants Billy to finally get the right wife for him. There is an argument between Billy and Lisa; she is finally leaving. He packs his things and he realizes that he is actually afraid of old age and being alone. The four become friends again, Billy is persuaded to meet Diana.

When they want to leave the suite, the conscious whiskey bottle reappears. You open them for a farewell toast, but find that the contents haven't aged as well as they did.

A few months later, Billy and Diana call Archie and Paddy together and tell them that they are getting married. Unfortunately, they cannot reach Sam because he is "busy" with his wife.

Reviews

“The five famous Oscar winners Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen are a treat, but director Jon Turteltaub and screenwriter Dan Fogelmann leave the retired comedy 'Last Vegas' somewhere in the no man's land between charming and romantic Entertainment and cheap gossip sink in. "

“The Schwank, written by Dan Fogelman ('Crazy, Stupid, Love.') Always scores points when the old stars tackle self-deprecating bonmots like 'I have hemorrhoids older than your girlfriend'. And when a moving ode to lifelong friendship unfolds towards the end of the film, serious tones flash about getting older in a society obsessed with youthfulness. "

“Anyone who was looking forward to a spin-off for 'Hangover' has come to the wrong address with 'Last Vegas'. The film is not a pure comedy to relax. The themes of the film touch and entertain in a sympathetic way for almost the entire duration. Director Turteltaub proves that you can have fun doing it, especially if you go through life with the right people. The subtitle of the film is: 'It's going to be legendary.' And the film already has the potential to become legendary. "
