Le Pompidou is a French commune of the department Lozère in the region Occitania . Administratively it is assigned to the canton of Le Collet-de-Dèze and the Arrondissement of Florac .
geography
The mountain village with 160 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located on the Corniche des Cévennes ridge on the southern edge of the Cevennes between Florac and Saint-Jean-du-Gard and around 70 kilometers north-west-north of the city of Montpellier .
history
The place name is derived from the Occitan word pompidor ( French palier ). This is the name given to a platform that can be reached via stairs.
