Lenin monuments on the territory of the former GDR

The following list of Lenin monuments on the territory of the former GDR contains the (so far) known monuments and memorial plaques in honor of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and information about their whereabouts. It is divided according to the federal states in eastern Germany that have been in effect since 1991 and can be sorted according to location, date and sculptor. Only plaques that have a direct connection with Lenin's life are mentioned here. Busts, sculptures or reliefs in honor of Lenin that were placed in front of or in schools, factories, LPGs , etc., or that are exhibited in museum rooms, are not listed.

The abbreviations in the first column mean BL = federal state with BE = Berlin , BB = Brandenburg , MV = Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , SN = Saxony , ST = Saxony-Anhalt and TH = Thuringia .

red granite from Ukraine, 19 m high statue on a round base Nikolai Tomski dismantled, dismantled, dug in and replaced by a well system made of boulders. However, the head was dug up again in 2017 and brought to the open-air exhibition at the Spandau Citadel as a permanent exhibit.

Memorial plaque with portrait Lenin's whereabouts in 1895. Here he had contacts with representatives of the SPD Reichstag constituency Niederbarnim , and among other things wrote an obituary for the recently deceased Friedrich Engels .

statue Copy of the Lenin monument by Matwei Maniser in Ulyanovsk , the statue was provisionally dismantled in 2004 and disappeared from the private property on which it was located in April 2018 under unexplained circumstances. Allegedly, the 500 kilo monument is said to have been stolen unnoticed.

The artist Rudolf Herz presented the busts of the dismantled ensemble again in Dresden in 2004 as part of his Lenin on Tour campaign , and in 2009 also in front of the Cologne Cathedral .

SN Leipzig , Old Fair (Soviet Pavilion) 1950 bust 1993 to a private person to Thuringia, 2003 on the occasion of the film premiere of Good Bye, Lenin! 3.5 meter high bronze statue moved to a place in front of the honor grove for Soviet war dead, in 2012 there was a public dispute about tearing the memorial and selling it or leaving it standing. The city administration has decided to stay. In the meantime an information board has been put up, the existence of the monument is secured because it is located on a Soviet war cemetery and is protected by the German-Russian agreement on war grave care.

ST Halle (Saale), Lerchenfeldstraße 14 (City Museum) 1929 Bronze mask Erich Will and Martin Knauthe preserved, oldest Lenin memorial in Germany. 1929 in the former rifle house of the Glauchaer Schützengesellschaft erected a stylized bronze mask of Lenin with hammer and sickle on brick pillars in the stairwell. Destroyed in 1933, reconstructed in 1968. Preserved today.

The annual market, p. 238 also describes: "... until it was then placed in the courtyard of the town hall as a visible sign of the end of an unloved era."
