Two railway bridges over the Chemnitz as well as a railway tunnel | (Map) | 1900-1901 | Elongated railway bridges that characterize the landscape, as well as railway tunnels typical of the time, of regional, technical and transport historical importance, due to the remarkable combination of different construction methods from stone and iron bridge construction in two bridge structures of great scientific and documentary value.
Between Wittgensdorf and Auerswalde, the Chemnitz river circles a rock (on the Schusterstein) in a 180-degree curve, the railway line was shortened here by means of a tunnel, but had to cross the river twice by means of technically impressive bridges: Northern railway bridge at kilometer 16.982: location also municipality Taura, OT Köthensdorf-Reitzenhain, parcel 269, built 1900/1901, 77.75 m long, 6.2 m high, 4.2 m wide, consists of four differently constructed steel girders (three riveted solid wall girders made of steel and a riveted lattice box girder made of steel) with a roadway on top, each resting on bricked sandstone pillars, the wide opening over the Chemnitz river is spanned by the mighty lattice box girder, which also serves as a support for the solid wall girder bridge segments connected on both sides, the solid wall girders span the adjacent floodplain and serve as flood bridges, Southern railway bridge at route km 17.217: built 1900/1901, combined bridge, consists of two consecutive single-track bridge structures with an overhead carriageway - a steel girder construction over the river and a flood bridge made of brick arches over the floodplain: River bridge: riveted solid wall girder bridge made of steel over two openings ( Length 35.5 m, height 5.5 m, width 1.8 m), the height of the solid wall girders used depends on the size of the spanned opening - higher girders over the Chemnitz, narrower girders over meadow or path, abutments made of sandstone (higher girders on the central pillar also serve as supports for the narrower girders) Flood bridge: sandstone-walled stone arch bridge with three flood openings (length 30.15 m, width 4 m), Railway tunnel, route kilometers 17.116: built 1900/1901, approx. 125 m long tube with brick entrance portals, |

Post mileage | Garnsdorfer Hauptstraße 5 (next to) (map) |
probably 1726 | A fragment of a quarter milestone, of significance in terms of traffic history.
Quarter milestone made of Rochlitz porphyry with various inscriptions "AR", "1726" and the post horn mark belonged to Poststrasse Chemnitz-Rochlitz. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679 - 1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system. (LfD / 2013.)
