List of countries by wealth distribution
The list of countries according to wealth distribution shows a measure of the unequal distribution of wealth for a selection of countries using the Gini coefficient . The higher the Gini index, the more unequal the distribution of wealth.
In addition, countries are sorted according to the asset class in which their population is located. From this, too, strong conclusions can be drawn about how evenly a country's prosperity is distributed.

- Database
- The data for 2015 and 2016 mostly come from the Credit Suisse - Global Wealth Databook 2015 and 2016 . Note: The asset data (median) are mostly the result of an estimate, see the original report for details on the method.
- The data in the Gini column (2000) and some additional countries come from the Institute for Development Economics at the University of the United Nations (UNU-WIDER). The data basis is the year 2000.
- The values from the Luxembourg Wealth Study from a somewhat later period are in brackets .
- The data for Greece and Zimbabwe are taken from a 150-country publication including a. also by UNU-WIDER, added. The database is also here in the year 2000.
- Sweden has been quoted as "an extreme case among rich countries in that one particular family, the Wallenbergs, holds such sway in business."
- annotation
- Survey-based asset comparisons are subject to a systematic error that is higher the higher the Gini coefficient, as the few owners of highly concentrated assets can either hardly be recorded for statistical reasons or provide no information.
- Depending on the survey method that is used in the individual countries, the results can also vary considerably, so that only limited comparability between different countries is possible.
Countries by asset class
The following list provides an overview of the proportions of adults in a country who belong to a specific asset class. A person has a personal fortune of less than $ 10,000, it belongs to the lowest level, with a capacity between 10,000 and 100,000 US dollars, it is part of the second stage, etc. All figures are from the Global Wealth Databook 2016 the Bank Credit Suisse. Countries are sorted according to the proportion of people in the highest asset class (over 1 million), if this is equal to or is 0, according to the next level (between 100,000 and 1 million).
