List of cities in Morocco
The list of cities in Morocco provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger cities of the North African state of Morocco (excluding Western Sahara ). Because of the Western Sahara conflict, Morocco's southern border is internationally controversial until a UN referendum is held on the future membership of Western Sahara.
By far the largest agglomeration in Morocco is Casablanca with a population of 3,844,537 (as of January 1, 2008). This means that twelve percent of the country's people live in this region. The capital and second largest city of the country is Rabat with 1,754,425 inhabitants in its agglomeration.
The following table contains the cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants (status: 2014) in German and Arabic as well as Tamazight with the results of the population censuses (VZ) from
- September 3, 1982,
- September 2, 1994,
- September 2, 2004 and
- September 1, 2014.
The region to which the city belongs is also given. The population figures refer to the respective urban settlement, i.e. not to the municipality in the political sense. The population figures for most large cities can therefore be assigned to the respective area of the agglomeration.
