List of Portuguese ambassadors in Gambia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of Portuguese ambassadors in Gambia lists the ambassadors of the Republic of Portugal in Gambia . The countries have had direct diplomatic relations since 1976, which go back to the arrival of the Portuguese explorers in what is now the Gambia in 1446.

A Portuguese ambassador was first accredited in 1979 in the Gambian capital Banjul . Portugal did not open its own embassy there; since the beginning of relations, the country has belonged to the administrative district of the Portuguese ambassador in Senegal , who is receiving second accreditation in Gambia (as of 2019).

There is a Portuguese honorary consulate in Serekunda near the capital Banjul .
