List of Portuguese ambassadors in Madagascar

The list of Portuguese ambassadors in Madagascar lists the ambassadors of the Republic of Portugal in Madagascar . The countries have had direct diplomatic relations since Malagasy independence in 1960, which go back to the arrival of the Portuguese explorers as the first Europeans in what is now Madagascar in 1500.

The first Ambassador of Portugal accredited in 1960 in the Madagascan capital Antananarivo , as charge d'affaires of the newly opened Portuguese embassy there. In 1963 Portugal closed its representation again, after which Madagascar belonged to the administrative district of the Portuguese Ambassador to Mozambique , who was second accredited in Antananarivo . The Portuguese representative in South Africa has been responsible for Madagascar since 2003 (as of 2019).

An honorary consulate of Portugal has been set up in the Malagasy capital of Antananarivo .
