List of German large torpedo boats (1898–1919)
Since 1881 people in the German Empire were concerned with the design of torpedo boats . After building the first prototypes, comparing competing shipyard designs and determining tactical and strategic objectives, the first series of small torpedo boats was commissioned from the Schichau shipyard in Elbing in 1884. The Imperial Navy turned to 1898 a total of 89 constructively build on each other boats continuously improved designs in service. From 1895 onwards, those responsible in the torpedo inspection were asked whether the boats built so far could keep up with international developments, especially the destroyers emerging in Great Britain and the French deep-sea torpedo boats. In 1898 it was finally agreed that the new boats should be significantly more seaworthy and have greater sea endurance with increased armament. With the series from S 90 onwards , the Imperial Navy built so-called large torpedo boats . This list contains all the large torpedo boats of the Imperial Navy that have been commissioned or. the boats that came into service until the end of the First World War and the beginning of the Weimar Republic .

Individual evidence
- ↑ Erich Gröner, on the other hand, gives August 3, 1914 as the date of loss. The information here is based on the Admiralstabswerk Krieg zur See 1914-1918 , Der Krieg in der Ostsee Vol. 1 p. 52 and the memorial on the Kiel North Cemetery
- ↑ Contrary to Gröner's statement, the boat sank there in 1943 according to the KTB of the Coast Commander in Chief Middle Baltic Sea; there were eight injured and no deaths
- ↑ Contrary to Gröner, S 23 is not listed as a booty boat in Soviet lists
