Male is the fifth solo album by the Hamburg rapper Samy Deluxe . It was released on March 21, 2014 on the Vertigo Records label , which is part of the Universal Music Group .

Emergence

background

After the release of the previous solo album SchwarzWeiss and the re-release as an Up2Date version in 2011 and the subsequent tour in 2012, Samy Deluxe withdrew from the public a little as a rapper. Instead, he released the album, as Herr Sorge, Conspiracy Theories with Beautiful Melodies , which was less perceived by the media. He focused on sung songs that contained a strong level of social criticism.

In the fall of 2013 he switched back to the rapper role. He released the mixtape Perlen vor die Säue as a foretaste of the upcoming album.

For the album itself, Samy Deluxe was looking for a simple but profound title , like for SchwarzWeiss , that should serve as a guide for the songs. His choice fell on male .

Samy Deluxe is organizing a tour for the album, the Testosterone Tour in April and May 2014.

The album was produced in the KunstWerkStadt . After SchwarzWeiss, it is the second Samy Deluxe album to be produced there. In addition, parts of the mixtape Pearls before the Acid as well as the album Conspiracy theories with beautiful melodies (under the pseudonym Herr Sorge ) were created at this location.

The KunstWerkStadt is a building that Samy Deluxe bought after the release of the album Dis where I'm from . The production facilities and studios are located here.

In addition to Samy Deluxe, the producers are DJ ViTo, DJ Saint One and Tony Brown. The DLX BND contributed to the creation of the album with instrumentals. This band includes Matteo Capreoli (vocals, guitar), Dr. Zorn (Jan van der Toorn; vocals, e-piano) and Hazy Haze (bass).

Guest Posts

Overall, there are more guest posts than the artist's previous albums. There are six features on the Standard Edition and an additional one on the Bonus EP. In Open Heart participated mine , which contributed to Omnichord beat and the chorus. On Blablabla is Soul - singer Y'akoto represented. Brixx can be heard here on No Love , just like on the previous mix tape Perlen vor die Säuen on the title Jungle Book . The song Forbidden Fruits contains Malo singing. On penis is Flo Mega feature guest. Before that, Samy Deluxe participated on Flo Mega's song time .

Enemy Afrob is represented on Pappblick on the bonus EP .

Three editions of the album were released.

Male
Mars symbol
The standard edition is called Male . It contains 16 songs on a compact disc . The cover shows the x-ray image of a skull in yellow color. At the level of the forehead there is SAMY DELUXE and the Mars symbol ♂ as a sign for male . The background is black .
Male (Limited Deluxe Edition)
In addition to the 16 songs, the extended edition contains four bonus tracks on a second CD (bonus EP ) as well as the instrumentals of the 16 songs of the standard edition on a third CD. The cover differs from the standard edition in that only the left half of the cover shows the skull. The other half shows a normal photo of Samy Deluxe that is colored yellow. It comes from the photographer Axl Klein, who took it as part of the Zorn project .
Male (Limited Fan Edition)
This edition is the same as the Limited Deluxe Edition, but it also includes a T-shirt with the Samy Deluxe logo and a sticker. It is sold exclusively on Amazon.de .

There were several promotions for the album.

Mix tapes
The mixtape pearls in front of the sows can be seen as the first promotional campaign. After the release of the album, another mixtape will be released.
DMAX broadcast
The show on DMAX , Male Deluxe , appeared in six episodes. The theme is a “masculinity tour across Germany”, in which Samy Deluxe starts a “self-discovery trip”. He is accompanied by four friends. The show ran in February and March 2014.
One Take Wonders
As with the album SchwarzWeiss , Samy Deluxe released so-called One Take Wonders . These are music videos that contain music that has been recently conceived (written). The recording is the first attempt, i.e. the first take . There are four One Take Wonders in total (as of March 16, 2014).
Snippets
From March 14 to 21, 2014, two new snippets each day, i.e. excerpts from the album, each approx. 90 seconds long, will be published. The order of publication is the same as on the album itself.

Singles and video releases

The first single from the album was released on January 31, 2014, before the album was released. It's called Hold on tight . The Fantastischen Vier singing the hookline are included as a feature . A music video was released for the single . It shows Samy Deluxe and Die Fantastischen Vier on the Nürburgring . There they drive motor sports cars.

In addition to this song, Traum can also be considered a single, as it is played by many radio stations during the album's promotional phase. In addition, a music video was released for the song on the day of the release.

A video was also released on March 24, 2014 for the song Hallo (DELUX zum E.) , which is only on the bonus EP. It shows Samy Deluxe spraying trains.
