history

Until the 19th century

Mödingen and Bergheim belonged to the Maria Medingen monastery, which was founded before 1239 . The places were part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark , the seat of which the monastery was until its abolition in 1803. With the community edict of 1818 , the independent communities Mödingen and Bergheim came into being. In 1843 the abandoned monastery was repopulated by Dillinger Franciscan Sisters .

Incorporations

In the course of the Bavarian municipal area reform , the formerly independent municipalities Bergheim and Mödingen merged with the Maria Medingen monastery on May 1, 1978 to form a municipality within the Wittislingen administrative community. In a vote of all eligible voters, the name "Mödingen" was chosen as the name of the new municipality by a narrow majority.
