The 2008/09 season of the MOL League was the first regular staging of the highest joint ice hockey division in Romania and Hungary . The first champions of the league was HC Miercurea Ciuc , who was also the best team in the main round.

Each team played against each opponent four times, making the total number of games per team in the main round 36. The first four teams qualified for the playoffs, in which the semi-finals were played in best-of-three mode and the final in best-of-five mode.
