history

The place was originally called "ze der Awe" (= to the meadow). 1302 the place was first attested by name in the personal name Bvrchart by the Awe. In 1529 the place was called "Mayhaim" and "Mayla", and in 1591 for the first time as "Mailheim". The form "Mahla" remains attested until 1735. Why or how the place name change came about remains unclear. During the Thirty Years War in October 1621 troops of Peter Ernst II von Mansfeld lay in Mailheim and the surrounding area for a few days. They stole 300 guilders from the landlord in Mailheim. At the beginning of the 18th century there were 5 properties in Mailheim, four of which were Bavarian and one was native to the wind.

At the end of the 18th century there were 7 properties in Mailheim. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Vogtamt Lenkersheim . The village and township government had the box office Ipsheim held. The landlords were the Kastenamt Ipsheim (1 sheep farm, 1 farm, 1 tavern, 2 estates, 1 forge) and the imperial city of Windsheim (1 farm).

In 1810 Mailheim came to the new Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, it was assigned to the Ipsheim tax district in 1811 . In 1817 the rural community Ipsheim was formed, to which Mailheim belonged. With the second community edict (1818) Mailheim broke up with Mäusberg and Weimersheim and formed its own rural community, which was initially named after Weimersheim. The rural community Mailheim (Weimersheim) was subject to the Windsheim Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and to the Ipsheim Rent Office for financial administration . From 1862 Mailheim was administered by the Uffenheim District Office (renamed the Uffenheim District in 1938 ) and from 1856 by the Windsheim Rent Office ( renamed Windsheim Tax Office in 1920 ). The jurisdiction remained with the District Court of Windsheim until 1879, from 1880 District Court of Windsheim . The municipality had an area of 4.235 km².

On May 1, 1978 Mailheim was incorporated into Ipsheim as part of the regional reform .
