Manegold von Berg (* 1140 / 1950s; † June 9, 1215 in Vienna ) was abbot of the monasteries of St. Georgen , Kremsmünster , Tegernsee and Bishop of Passau .

Manegold von Berg comes from the Upper Swabian counts of the von Berg family . He was the youngest son of Count Diepold II von Berg - Schelklingen and Gisela von Andechs and destined for a spiritual career, like his brothers Heinrich von Berg and Diepold von Berg , who preceded him as Passau bishops, and his brother Otto II. von Berg , Bishop of Freising.

At a young age he became a monk, then abbot of the St. Georgen monastery in the Black Forest, where he defended the ownership rights of the Black Forest monastery in the Tennenbacher Güterstreit (1180–1187). In addition, Manegold received the management of the Austrian monastery Kremsmünster (1183–1206), but he was not undisputed here. He became abbot in the Bavarian monastery Tegernsee (1190-1206) and gave up the abbot dignity of St. Georgen after 1193/94. In 1197 he took part in the crusade to the Holy Land , in 1206 he was elected Bishop of Passau (1206-1215). Against the background of the Staufer-friendly attitude of the Counts von Berg, Manegold developed several imperial political activities and met with the kings Henry VI. (1190–1197), Philipp von Schwaben (1198–1208), Otto IV. (1198–1215 / 1218) and Friedrich II. (1212 / 1215–1250) together. As a bishop he was interested in the territorial expansion of his diocese; He also had the city of Passau re-fortified in 1209. Manegold von Berg died in Vienna on June 9, 1215.
