For many years he also played for the Swiss national team and played 236 international matches. His younger brother Benjamin Plüss was also a hockey player.

Career

In the national league and elite series

Plüss began his career at EHC Kloten , for whom he made his debut in National League A in 1994 at the age of 17 . With the team from the canton of Zurich , he became Swiss champions in 1995 and 1996 . In the 2000/01 season he was voted the most valuable player in the National League A. A season later , he was the second best scorer in the league behind the Canadian Christian Dubé from HC Lugano . In autumn 2004 he was signed by Frölunda HC from the Swedish Elitserien and played in Sweden until the end of the 2007/08 season, where he won the Swedish championship with the Gothenburg team in 2005 with and with the title "Best Swiss abroad" was honored. He was usually used as a center and was a good face-off player and scorer.

In 2008 he signed a contract with SC Bern , with whom he again became Swiss champions in 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2017 and his country's cup winners in 2015 . In 2010, 2011 and 2015 he was elected to the All-Star Team of the National League A and in 2013 and 2015, after more than a decade, was again named the most valuable player in the league. After winning the title in 2017 (he was team captain) and after a disagreement over the contract extension, he did not receive a new contract with SC Bern. In mid-November 2017 he announced the end of his playing career.

International

In the junior division, Plüss took part in the U18 European Championship in 1995 and the U20 World Championship in 1996 and 1997 for Switzerland.

Plüss has played over 236 international matches for the Swiss national team . He played at the World Championships in 1998 , 1999 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 and 2013 . At his last World Cup in 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki , he and his team won the silver medal, a success that Switzerland could only achieve at the 1935 World Cup .

He also played at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , 2006 in Turin , 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi . He also played several times in the Germany Cup , which he won with the team from his home country in 2001 .
