May Sphiwe Mahlangu (born May 1, 1989 in Secunda , Mpumalanga ) is a South African football player . The offensive midfielder won the Swedish championship title and the national cup with Helsingborgs IF .

Career

Mahlangu played in his youth in the Stars of Africa football academy in his home country. Due to a cooperation with the Swedish club Helsingborgs IF initiated in the same year, he came to Northern Europe in summer 2008, but coach Bo Nilsson arranged a loan deal with IFK Hässleholm . For the amateur club, he made his debut in August of that year in the fourth division Division 2 . After a winter stay in his home country, Mahlangu became a regular at the beginning of the following year, so that Helsingborgs IF brought him back in July 2009. He also played his way into the starting line-up in the Allsvenskan and therefore decided in September of that year not to participate in the 2009 U-20 World Cup . In the 2010 season he fluctuated between the starting line-up and bench, and ultimately played 19 league games for the club. As runner-up behind Malmö FF , he moved with the team in the final of the national cup against the second division club Hammarby IF . At the side of Erik Sundin , Marcus Lantz , Alexander Gerndt and Erik Edman , he won the title with her with a goal from Rasmus Jönsson in the 80th minute of the game.

In the 2011 season Mahlangu established himself under coach Conny Karlsson as an undisputed regular player on the offensive of his club. From the fifth game day at the top of the table, he also contributed as a goalscorer to winning the championship title, which was already clear on the fourth from last game day. At the end of the season he also defended the cup success with the team, so that at the end of 2011, including winning the national Supercup, was the triple . Although the team was unable to build on the success in the following years, he was still a regular at his club until a long injury break in 2013.

Nevertheless, Mahlangu decided to leave Helsingborgs IF at the end of 2013. In March 2014 he signed a one-year contract with league rivals IFK Göteborg . With five goals this season, he contributed to the runner-up in the Allsvenskan season in 2014 behind Malmö FF, alongside Lasse Vibe , Jakob Johansson , Gustav Svensson , Ludwig Augustinsson and Mattias Bjärsmyr . Despite the club's efforts, he decided when the contract expired to want to leave Sweden.

In the spring of 2015 Mahlangu moved to the Turkish Süper Lig at Torku Konyaspor , where he received a contract that was valid until the end of the season. At the end of the season he left this club again. After four months of no engagement, he joined the Belgian first division club VV St. Truiden in November 2015 . At the end of the season they parted ways again. At the beginning of September 2016, the Romanian first division club Dinamo Bucharest signed him .

For the 2018/19 season he then went to Ludogorez Razgrad in Bulgaria . Here he only played four games and was awarded to Ordabassy Schymkent from Kazakhstan the following February for the entire year 2019 .
