The Mazzetti di Pietralata family is an old Roman family and originally comes from Piedmont .

Family history

The first mention of the family is contained in a document from 1263 in which a "Giacomo de Macetto" from Chieri is mentioned. In their city of origin, the Mazzetti were wealthy merchants and lenders. Abroad, the family ran a pawn shop in Besançon between around 1280 and 1290 ; later a branch of the family settled in Bresse (Savoy) for economic reasons . There is another "Giacomo" as judge of the Dotal estate of Blanka of Burgundy , widow of the Count of Edward of Savoy who died in 1329 . This Giacomo had various fiefs in Savoy, where his descendants died out in the 15th century.

The sons of Domenico Mazzetti from Chieri (Giovanni, Paolo, Nicoletto and Domenico) were born in 1440 by the Marquis of Monferrato Johann Jakob for the land of Saluggia (near Vercelli ), which they had bought from the Lords of Montiglio , with the pact of mutual succession for invested in the event that one of them died before the others.

The Mazzetti in Rome

At the end of the 16th century, a branch of the Mazzetti family moved to Rome with Don Giovanni Battista and his brother Ettore, where they bought a house in the Sant'Eustachio district . Since their arrival, the Mazzetti devoted themselves to the service of the Church, both in the Papal States and in the city magistrates.

  • Don Giacomo Mazzetti, (* November 17, 1890; † 1957), son of Don Camillo and Maria Carmine dei Marchesi Rocchi, V.
