The Minsk-Arena ( Belarusian Мінск-Арэна , Russian Минск-Арена ) is a multifunctional arena in the Belarusian capital Minsk . The Minsk Arena has 15,086 seats and is part of a sports complex that includes a covered velodrome and a speed skating hall . The Minsk Arena has hosted the home games of HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League since 2010 and the basketball team of Zmoki Minsk from the Belarusian Premier Basketball League since 2012.

history

The Minsk-Arena, which was built between 2006 and 2009, was officially opened on January 30, 2010 on the occasion of the KHL All-Star Game . Team Jágr (world selection) defeated Team Jashin (Russia) with 11: 8 goals. The hall is mainly used for ice hockey and basketball games. The ice hockey club HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League has played its home games in the stadium since January 14, 2010. The multi-purpose hall replaced the much smaller Minsk Sports Palace from 1966 with around 3,300 seats, in which Dinamo had played since it was founded in 2004.

In 2011 the arena hosted the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships . In the following year the figure skating junior world championship and the bandy world championship were held in the event hall. The Minsk Arena, along with the Tschyschouka Arena, was one of two venues for the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship .

In addition to the sporting events, the arena is used for concerts and shows. The Scorpions , Lana Del Rey , 30 Seconds to Mars , Sting , Elton John , Rammstein , Shakira , Jennifer Lopez and Joe Cocker performed . This also includes the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010 and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in November of both years.

In the Velodrome Minsk-Arena with 2,000 seats from 2008, which belongs to the complex , the 2013 UCI Track World Championships were held. The 250-meter-long wooden cycling track was designed by the Münster architect Ralph Schürmann . In 2009 the European Junior Track Championships were held here.

The Minsk Arena speed skating arena with a 400 meter track is the first covered speed skating arena in Belarus. The ice rink has a total area of around 10,000  m 2 , of which 5,000 m 2 is used for the speed skating rink. There are two ice hockey rinks (60 × 30 m and 60 × 28 m) and two curling rinks within the track. In a special room, you can train under the conditions of altitude training. To do this, the air pressure is lowered and the oxygen content in the air is reduced.
