Mutis is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district belongs to the administrative district of North Central Timor (Timor Tengah Utara) of the East Nusa Tenggara Province (Nusa Tenggara Timur) . In the southeast of the district is Westmiomaffo (Miomaffo Barat) , south of the the administrative district of South Central Timor Regency belonging districts Tobu and Fatumnasi and west in the administrative district of Kupang , the district Nordamfoang ( Amfoang Utara ). In the north and east, Mutis borders on the Oe-Cusse Ambeno exclave belonging to the state of East Timor . The Noel Besi (in the upper reaches of the Rio Kusi) forms the course of the state border.

Mutis has an area of ​​90.50 km² and is divided into the four Desa Tasinifu in the east, Naekake A and Naekake B in the northern center and Noelelo in the west. The administrative center is located in Naekake A. The entire territory is over 200  m above sea level , with Naekake A and Naekake B above 500  m . As usual in Timor, the climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season .

Residents

In 2017, Mutis had a population of 7,518. 3700 are men, 3818 women. The population density is 79 people per square kilometer. 7,482 people profess the Catholic faith, 35 are Protestants and one person is of the Muslim faith. There are nine Catholic and one Protestant churches in the district.

Economy and Transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (9,569), horses (205), buffalos (72), pigs (2,404), goats (751) and chickens (6,446) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 1,449 hectares, 74 hectares of rice, 40 hectares of cassava, 15 hectares of sweet potatoes and 60 hectares of peanuts.

200 meters of roads are paved. 13.474 kilometers of roads are covered with gravel. Simple clay slopes in the district have a length of 22.5 kilometers. Public transport is operated by seven pick ups, 17 trucks, six buses, 72 motorcycles and four other vehicles.
