Myrnyj (Ukrainian Мирний ; Russian Мирный / Mirny ) is an urban-type settlement in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in southern Ukraine with 4200 inhabitants (2011).
history
The settlement, founded in 1961 in connection with the construction of a canal from the Black Sea to the neighboring Donuslaw Lake and the construction of a military airfield , has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1977 and is a garrison location with the Nowooserne seaport , the naval base and until the annexation of the Crimea through the Russian Federation was the home port of ships of the Ukrainian Navy .
geography
Myrnyj is located in the northwest of the Crimean peninsula between the shores of the Black Sea in the southeast and the 47 km² Donuzlav Lake in the northeast and is administratively part of the city council of the city of Evpatoria, 30 km southeast . In the south, the village of Popivka , which belongs to the district council of Shtormowe ( Штормове ), borders the settlement. The Saky district center is located 53 km southeast of Myrnyj.
