Nowooserne (Ukrainian Новоозерне ; Russian Новоозёрное / Novoosjornoje ) is an urban-type settlement in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in southern Ukraine with 7,200 inhabitants (2011).
The village is a garrison site with a seaport that is a naval base and home port for ships of the Ukrainian Navy . The Ukraine's first industrial wind power plant is located northeast of Nowooserne .
history
The settlement founded in 1971 in connection with the construction of a canal from the Black Sea to the Donuslaw Lake has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1977.
geography
Nowooserne is located in the Saky district in the northwest of the Crimean peninsula on the banks of the 47 km² Donuslaw Lake, which is connected to the Black Sea via a canal. Administratively, Nowooserne is part of the city council of the city of Evpatoria, 34 km to the southeast .
