NGC 1012 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Aries on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 48 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 35,000 ly. Together with PGC 9808 and PGC 9705 , it forms the small NGC 1012 group ( LGG 67 ).
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on September 11, 1784 .
