Nemanja Matić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Немања Матић , born August 1, 1988 in Vrelo near Ub , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian football player who is currently under contract with Manchester United and plays in the Serbian national team. He also has Slovak citizenship.

Club career

After playing for various Serbian clubs, he moved to MFK Košice in Slovakia in 2007 . At the beginning of the 2008/2009 season he had a trial session at Middlesbrough FC . He couldn't convince there. On August 18, 2009, he signed a contract with Chelsea . He is moving to London for £ 1.5 million. In August 2010 he was loaned to Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch Eredivisie .

Benfica Lisbon

In July 2011, Nemanja Matić moved to Benfica Lisbon . Matić made his European debut on September 14, 2009 when he was in the starting eleven in Benfica's 1-1 draw in the first group game in the Champions League against Manchester United . Matić came in this competition, where Benfica Lisbon narrowly eliminated in the quarterfinals against Matic's ex-club and later title holder Chelsea, to seven appearances. In the league Matić came to 16 missions where he scored one goal. On February 21, 2013 Nemanja Matić scored his first European Cup goal after scoring the 2-1 winner for Benfica in the second leg of the second leg in the Europa League against Bayer 04 Leverkusen .

Chelsea FC

On January 15, 2014, Matić returned to Chelsea . He signed a contract until June 30, 2019. Matic won the Premier League twice with Chelsea.

Manchester United

In 2017 Matic moved to Manchester United . His contract with the Red Devils runs until 2023.

National team

In Serbia he was a rather unknown player until 2008. Vladimir Vermezović , then coach of FC Spartak Trnava , drew attention to Matić. So he made his international debut for the Serbian U-21 selection against Denmark on October 11, 2008 . After 3 more games for the U-21s, he completed his first international match for the Serbian national soccer team against Poland on December 14, 2008 .

Matić also took part in the U-21 European Football Championship in 2009 , but was injured in the first game against Italy. He scored his first goal for the Serbian national team in the 1: 2 defeat in the European Championship qualifier against Portugal on March 29, 2015. In 2018 he took part in the World Cup with Serbia and was used in all three preliminary round matches. Serbia was eliminated after the preliminary round.
