The Neustadt district is a district in the center of the Saxon state capital Dresden . With effect from September 13, 2018, the day of the public announcement of the corresponding amendment to the main statutes, the name city district replaced the original name local office area. Accordingly, the local council, local office and local office manager became the new names city district council, city district office and city district office manager.

The city district is divided into the following districts:

Inner Neustadt with historic buildings, which instead of old Dresden was founded
Äußere Neustadt , a well-known trendy district with many buildings from the Wilhelminian era

This type of structure has existed since 1991. Before that, the city district was part of the city districts of Dresden-Mitte (Innere Neustadt) and Dresden-Nord (Äußere Neustadt, Leipziger and Radeberger Vorstadt, Albertstadt).

The area of the Neustadt district is largely identical to the Neustadt district , but also includes parts of the Loschwitz district (area of the Saloppe waterworks ), Hellerberge ( Hellersiedlung ) and Klotzsche .

In a narrower sense, Dresden-Neustadt also means the combined area of the inner and outer Neustadt districts, but in the originally historical sense only today's Inner Neustadt.

Antonstadt is the old name for the Äußere Neustadt, which was originally located outside the city walls, and is still often given in official documents as a parenthesis when they are mentioned.

Until 2019, the distribution of seats in the district advisory board was based on the distribution of votes in the city council election in the district. Since 2019, an election for the city district council has been held at the same time as the election for the city council.

The Neustadt district office is located in the “Atrium am Rosengarten ”, which is located on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz , the Neustadt bridgehead of the Albertbrücke , in the acute angle between Glacis- and Hoyerswerdaer Straße .
