The two districts were separated from each other in 1293 when Niederwindens was sold. In 1316 the Schwarzenbergs came into possession of the Kastelburg . In 1567 Niederzüge became Austrian and belonged to the Landgraviate of Breisgau , later to the Oberamt Breisgau , in front of Austria . In 1805 both places became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden .

Culture and sights
music
In the year 1880 12 enthusiastic musicians decided to found the band in Ober winds. Appearances took place mainly on church occasions and special events in the community.
As early as 1928, the band's young musicians formed a delegation which, in their own interest, also successfully held public events.
During the two world wars, the band was still active, but the members' sense of togetherness and their love of music could not be destroyed. As early as 1947, 16 musicians began making music again and many followed their example. In 1964 (-1975) the "Elztäler Dorfmusikanten", who initially played mainly at internal events, emerged from the band. Her name and her folk ways were soon known beyond local borders.

There is evidence of a church at this location as early as 1178. In 1278 it was a branch of the Martinskirche in Waldkirch. The church was partially destroyed in the Thirty Years War - only the sacristy and the Gothic choir arch are still preserved today. The decade-long, very meager furnishings changed when the baroque high altar, created around 1760, was brought from the Tennenbach Monastery, which was dissolved in 1806, to Niederwinde. From 1978 to 1980 the St. Leonhard Church was completely restored.
