The North Sea resort of Tossens is part of the municipality of Butjadingen in the Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony .

geography

Tossens is located on the Butjadingen peninsula directly on the Inner Jade opposite the city of Wilhelmshaven . The place is located around 20 kilometers from Nordenham .

history

There has been a first chapel in Tossens since 1420. After the final defeat of the Butjadinger Frisians in 1514, Tossens belonged to the later Grand Duchy of Oldenburg . In 1523 the place became its own parish, in 1635 the church was expanded. In 1892 Tossens was awarded the title North Sea Bath. The municipality of Tossens was incorporated into the new municipality of Burhave in 1933, together with Eckwarden, Langwarden, Burhave, Waddens and Stollhamm, which was renamed Butjadingen in 1936. During the Second World War, the Kilwa heavy flak battery was built in Tossens . In 1948 the independent municipality of Langwarden was established with its seat in Tossens, the municipality belonged to the newly created state of Lower Saxony . On March 1, 1974, the municipality of Butjadingen, with its seat in Burhave, was formed from the municipalities of Langwarden, Burhave and Stollhamm.

On the pirate beach there is numerous play equipment such as a pirate Noah's Ark, a test of courage, a cable car, a water and adventure playground, as well as a beach volleyball field and the soccer school by the sea. The observation tower offers an excellent view of Wilhelmshaven on the opposite bank of the Jade. The Friesenstrand is also the end of the treasure hunt that takes place every year from May to October .

Bathing possibilities

The North Sea and the subtropical swimming paradise Aqua Mundo in the North Sea Coast holiday park , which has been part of the Center Parcs Group since December 2003, offer bathing opportunities .

Up to 2007 the Sand Art Festival took place a total of six times , at which works of art up to five meters high were created from sand.

Mudflat hiking

From March to October is to Tossens the possibility of a Wattwanderung participate. What is unique here is that people with limited walking ability can also take part in the mudflat hike by using mudflats.

Transport links

Ferry connections exist over the Weser from Nordenham to Bremerhaven and in the summer months over the Jade Bay from Eckwarderhörne to Wilhelmshaven. There is a train connection to Bremen from Nordenham. The bus routes 403 and 408 of the Wesermarsch transport company connect Tossens with the Nordenham train station several times a day. The community is connected to the A27 Bremen - Bremerhaven via the Weser Tunnel south of Nordenham . Via Varel and Jaderberg you get to the A 29 Oldenburg - Wilhelmshaven.
