Hatzendorf from the northeast

Hatzendorf is a place and a cadastral municipality of the municipality of Fehring in the district of Südoststeiermark in the southeast of Styria .

Hatzendorf used to form an independent municipality with 1751 inhabitants together with other localities (as of January 1, 2014). As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , it has been merged with the municipalities of Pertlstein , Hohenbrugg-Weinberg , Johnsdorf-Brunn and Fehring since 2015 ; the new municipality continues to bear the name Fehring. The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG.

Hatzendorf is located approx. 44 km east of Graz and approx. 10 km northeast of the district capital Feldbach in the eastern Styrian hill country .

The former municipal area comprised the following six localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

The community consisted of the cadastral communities Habegg, Hatzendorf, Oedgraben, Stang and Tiefenbach.

Highest elevation

The Schießlkogl at 389 m above sea level is the highest mountain in the former municipality of Hatzendorf.

In Hatzendorf there is a stop of the thermal railway Fehring - Friedberg .

The municipal coat of arms, awarded on May 29, 1978 , is described in the award document as follows:
"A shield split four times from black and silver, with a key on the front and a shortened sword at the back"

Culture and sights

Parish church Hatzendorf
  • The parish church of Hatzendorf on a hill on the western edge of Hatzendorf is dedicated to the two apostles Peter and Paul . The sanctuary ( choir ) and the tower of St. Peter's Church, first mentioned in a document in 1545 , have been preserved to this day . The nave was rebuilt in 1679 and later expanded in a cross shape around two side arms. During the renovation work in 1904 , the baroque vault was replaced by flat ceilings. The church, which was in danger of collapsing, was extensively renovated between 1972 and 1975 .

  • The Hatzendorf volunteer fire brigade has been an important part of the community for more than a hundred years and ensures the safety of the community's citizens around the clock.

In addition to kindergarten and elementary school, Hatzendorf also has an agricultural and forestry technical school with an attached boarding school.
