Paulína Fialková (born October 25, 1992 in Brezno ) is a Slovak biathlete .
Career
Paulína Fialková was born in Brezno on the edge of the Low Tatras and lives in nearby Čierny Balog . Her sister Ivona Fialková , who is two years younger, is also a biathlete.
Junior area (until 2013)
Paulína Fialková made her international debut as part of the 2010 Junior World Championships in Torsby , where she was 49th of the individual, ninth of the sprint, 22nd of the pursuit and eleventh in the relay race. This was followed by the races of the juniors at the 2010 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Duszniki-Zdrój , where Fialková was 27th in the sprint and 28th in the pursuit. In 2011 , the Slovak first started at the Junior World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě and was ninth in the individual, 12th in the sprint, 24th in the pursuit and seventh in the relay. This was followed by the junior races of the European Championships 2011 in Ridnaun , in which they came in 27th in the individual, 22nd in the sprint, 28th in the pursuit and 10 with the mixed relay. In the further course of the year she won the silver medal in the mixed relay medal of the juniors at the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2011 in Martell with Lucia Šimová , Tomáš Hasilla and Michal Kubaliak and was seventh in the sprint and sixth in the pursuit. The fourth international championships of the year were the 2011 European Summer Biathlon Championships in Nové Město. In the sprint, she finished 32nd, in the pursuit race 18th and in the mixed relay race seventh. In 2012 Fialková was the first to take part in the junior races of the European Championships in Osrblie and was 39th in the individual, 29th in the sprint, 15th in the pursuit and eighth in the mixed relay. The Junior World Championships followed in Kontiolahti , where she was 52nd in the individual, 14th in the sprint, 23rd in the pursuit and tenth in the relay.
In 2010 Fialková made his debut in Obertilliach with the women in the IBU Cup and was 33rd in a sprint and 31st in a pursuit race, thus immediately winning the first points. It was also her best results so far in the second highest racing series.
In 2012 the Slovak competed in her first race in the World Cup in Nové Město and reached 83rd place in the sprint. Her first international championship among women was the 2012 Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding . In the sprint she ran to 86th place. With Jana Gereková , Anastasiya Kuzmina and Martina Chrapánová , she finished eighth. Until Fialková's first shooting, the relay was close to the medal, Fialková could not hold this position, which was also due to a penalty loop at the last shooting. At the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2013 in Obertilliach she missed a medal with fourth place in the individual.
At the Junior Summer Biathlon World Championships 2013 in Forni Avoltri , she won the sprint and pursuit before her sister Ivona, in the mixed relay she finished third with Slovakia.
Regular appearances in the World Cup (2013 to 2017)
In the 2013/14 season , Fialková ran into the points for the first time when she hit all the targets in the Kontiolahti sprint and finished 10th. In the pursuit, she was denied another point success with 56th place. In Oslo , she managed another jump into the World Cup points with 24th place in the sprint. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she missed the opportunity to take part in the pursuit with 72nd place in the sprint. She was allowed to start a second time with the Slovak women's relay, which came in 14th. In the following season Fialková got three places in the top 40.
From 2015 she was more often in the points, in Ruhpolding she achieved two more top ten placements with 7th place in the pursuit and 6th place in the individual. In 2016/17 she got three places in the top ten, with 5th place in the pursuit of Kontiolahti, her best place in the World Cup so far. The 2016 European Biathlon Championships in Tyumen were also successful, where she won silver in the Slovak mixed relay and in the mass start. In the sprint she took 5th place, in the pursuit place 10th. At the Biathlon World Championships 2017 Fialková took 27th place in the individual, 31st place in the sprint, 12th place in the pursuit and 10th place in the mass start. At the 2017 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Tchaikovsky , she won three more medals: silver in the sprint and mixed relay and bronze in the pursuit.
Breakthrough and establishment among the world's best (since 2017)
In the 2017/18 season , Fialková achieved their best results so far. At the season opener in Östersund she ran in fourth place with the mixed relay, only 7.7 seconds behind the winner Norway and just behind Italy and Germany. In the singles she came in fifth. She was able to repeat this placement in the same discipline at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang . She finished the mass start at the end of the season in Tyumen in second place behind Darja Domratschawa and made it onto the podium for the first time.
At the 2018 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě, Paulína Fialková won the sprint and finished the pursuit behind Veronika Vítková in second place.
The start of the 2018 season went even better than 2017 , when she finished in the top 10 in her first three individual races after finishing 13th in the mixed relay. After 4th place in the individual and 6th place in the sprint, she finished third in the pursuit thanks to an error-free shooting and thus achieved her second podium in the World Cup. In the pursuit in Hochfilzen , she started in seventh place and finished second just behind Kaisa Mäkäräinen , after having been in the lead in the meantime. Also in Nové Město na Moravě she reached the podium several times with third place in the sprint and two in the mass start, so that at the turn of the year she was second in the overall World Cup behind Dorothea Wierer . January 2019 was then less successful, apart from a third place in the mass start in Ruhpolding , Fialková did not reach the top ten. Even at the World Cup in Östersund , she was unable to build on December; Although she was fifth in the individual, but won no medal. At the World Cup final in Oslo she reached the podium again with third place in the sprint. Overall, she was sixth in the overall World Cup, which is by far her best result.
