The Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté urbaine in the Pyrénées Orientales department in the Occitania region . It was founded on December 27, 2010 and comprises 36 parishes. The administrative headquarters are in the city of Perpignan .

Historical development

The Communauté d'agglomération Perpignan Méditerranée is the successor organization to the Communauté de communes Têt Méditerranée, which consists of the municipalities of Perpignan , Bompas , Canet-en-Roussillon , Saint-Nazaire , Sainte-Marie-la-Mer and Villelongue-de-la-Salanque duration.

With the re-establishment, eleven other municipalities joined the association: Baho , Canohès , Peyrestortes , Pézilla-la-Rivière , Pollestres , Saint-Estève , Le Soler , Toulouges , Saint-Féliu-d'Avall , Villeneuve-de-la-Raho and Villeneuve-la-Rivière , four more in 2006: Torreilles , Le Barcarès , Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque and Saint-Hippolyte . Baixas , Calce and Saleilles joined in 2007, and Llupia and Ponteilla-Nyls in 2010 .

In 2010 the merger of the Communauté d'agglomération Perpignan Méditerranée and the Communauté de communes du Rivesaltais-Agly-Manadeil with 9 members was decided. Finally, the municipality of Cabestany , which previously refused to join but was now an enclave in the Communauté d'agglomération, was forced to become a member by law (with effect from January 1, 2011).

With effect from January 1, 2016, the association of municipalities changed the legal form from Communauté d'agglomération to Communauté urbaine and changed its name to Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole.
