Sainte-Marie-la-Mer ( Catalan : Santa Maria la Mar) is a French commune with 4,773 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitania region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Perpignan and the Canton of Perpignan-2 .
Sainte-Marie consists of two localities: Sainte-Marie village 15 kilometers east of Perpignan and Sainte-Marie-Plage on the Mediterranean coast .
