Saint-Nazaire ( Catalan Sant Nazari de Rosselló ) is a French commune with 2,688 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Perpignan and is part of the canton of La Côte Sableuse (until 2015: canton of Canet-en-Roussillon ). The inhabitants are called Nazairiens .
geography
Saint-Nazaire is located in the Salanque landscape between Perpignan (about nine kilometers west-northwest) and the Mediterranean coast (about three kilometers east). The river Réart has its source on the western border of the municipality. To the east is the Etang de Canet lagoon . Saint-Nazaire is surrounded by the neighboring communities Canet-en-Roussillon in the north and east, Alénya in the south, Saleilles in the west and south-west and Cabestany in the west and north-west.
The municipality is part of the Côtes du Roussillon wine region , in which u. a. the Muscat de Rivesaltes is produced.
