economy

In the coastal region of Roselló ( Roussillon ), agriculture and viticulture are practiced to a small extent. The bathing, boat and surfing tourism as well as the rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ) play the largest role in the economic life of the place.

history

The first mention of the place goes back to the year 981 ( Villa Sancti Laurenti ). At that time, the place surrounded by salt water marshes ( salanques ) belonged - like the entire area of Roussillon - to the county of Barcelona , and later to the Crown of Aragon or the Kingdom of Mallorca . Roussillon has been French since the Peace of the Pyrenees (1659). Today's Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque was not created until 1929 after the split from Le Barcarès.

Attractions

The place, which has grown enormously in the last few decades, offers no sights. Excursions to the Mediterranean or the Étang de Leucate or - in another direction - to the mountains of the hinterland offer a little variety. The Fort of Salses is only about ten kilometers to the northwest.
