Saint-Hippolyte Church

Saint-Hippolyte ( Catalan : Sant Hipòlit de la Salanca ) is a French commune with 3,052 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitania region . Saint-Hippolyte belongs to the Arrondissement of Perpignan and the canton of La Côte Salanquaise (until 2015: canton of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque ). The inhabitants are called Hippolytains .

geography

Saint-Hippolyte is located on the Étang de Leucate near the Mediterranean coast , about eleven kilometers northeast of Perpignan in the Salanque countryside . Saint-Hippolyte is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque in the east, Claira in the south and Salses-la-Château in the west and north-west.

The Côtes du Roussillon wine-growing region extends into the municipality. This is where the Muscat de Rivesaltes is produced.
