Philipp Lukas (born December 4, 1979 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player who was under contract with EHC Linz in the Austrian ice hockey league between 2000 and 2018 .

Career

Philipp Lukas got to know the sport of ice hockey at the age of eight when he and his father and brother Robert attended a training session at WAT Stadlau . Not particularly enthusiastic about this sport at the time, his father, who was a former ice hockey player in Czechoslovakia , brought ice hockey closer to his son. Lukas and his brother were not only trained on the ice, but also worked at home on their stick and target technique. In the summer, the brothers visited training camps in the Czech Republic every year in order to bridge the ice-free time in Austria.

At the age of 16 Lukas played under the professional coach Kurt Harand , who soon integrated him into the fighting team of the Vienna EV . There he also got to know players like Andreas Judex , Raimund Divis and Oliver Setzinger . After the AHS had finished, he joined the HSNS (Heeressport- and melee School), which he also during his army time could train Hockey.

In 1999, Philipp Lukas was finally presented with an offer from VEU Feldkirch , which he also accepted. From then on he asserted himself in the top Austrian league. Just one year later, Lukas moved to Black Wings Linz due to the bankruptcy of his club with players like Rick Nasheim , Mark Szücs , Christian Perthaler and Markus Peintner .

On April 4, 2018, he announced the end of his career after the playoff against Salzburg. The club will no longer give his shirt number 21.

International

At the age of 14, Philipp Lukas had matured enough to be a fixture in the Austrian junior national team, in which he regularly entered the points list with goals and assists at tournaments in Switzerland, Canada and the Netherlands. He competed in the U18 European C Championships in 1996 , when he was the tournament's best defender and best goal setter, and in 1997 , when he was voted best player on his team, and the 1997 U20 C World Cup.

He made his debut in the Austrian national team on November 13, 1999 when he lost 3-1 to Germany in a friendly in Rosenheim . He then played at the World Championships in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2007 and 2011 for the Alpine countries in the top division. After relegation in 2007 he played at the 2008 World Cup in Division I and achieved immediate promotion to the top division with his team. He also represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002 and in Vancouver in 2010 .
