Robert "Bobby" Lukas (born August 29, 1978 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player who spent most of his career at EHC Linz . He won the national championship title four times . With the Austrian national team he took part in a large number of tournaments and world championships, the highlights of which were his participation in the 2002 and 2014 Winter Olympics . His brother Philipp is also a former ice hockey player.

Career

Robert Lukas began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown at Wiener EV , for whose professional team he was active in the Austrian ice hockey league from 1997 to 1999 . The defender then switched to his league rivals VEU Feldkirch and EC VSV for one season each . In the summer of 2001 he joined the EHC Linz , with whom he won the national championship for the first time in the 2002/03 season. After three years, the left shooter left Linz again and began the 2004/05 season with the Malmö Redhawks in the Swedish Elitserien . After just one game, however, he left them again and signed with the Vienna Capitals from the capital Vienna, with whom he won his second championship title.

In the 2005/06 season, returned to Luke EHC Linz back before the play-offs for the Kloten Flyers in the Swiss National League signed. In the following year, the national player mainly played for his former club, the Vienna Capitals, and was appointed to the ÖEHL All-Star Game for the first time at the end of the season. For the 2007/08 season he was initially obliged by HK Nitra from the Slovak Extra League. Shortly before the play-offs in the EBEL, however, he returned to Austria, where Lukas won the championship for the third time with EC Red Bull Salzburg in 2008 and was nominated for the All-Star Game for the second time. From 2008, Lukas was back on the ice for the Black Wings in Linz and was again Austrian champion with the club in 2012. In 2009 he was also nominated for the league's all-star game.

After the 2017/18 season, like his brother, he ended his career and became a junior manager at EHC Linz. His jersey number 55 has been banned by the club.

International

For Austria, Lukas took part in the youth division at the U18-B-European championship in 1995 and the U18-C-European championship in 1996 , when he was chosen as the best defender of the tournament, as well as the Junior C-World Championship in 1997 .

With the men's national team , in which he made his debut on November 13, 1999 in the 1: 3 defeat in the friendly against Germany in Rosenheim , he played at the World Championships of Division I in 2006 , 2008 and 2010 . In the top division he was on the ice in 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2007 , 2009 , 2011 and 2013 . He also represented the Alpine country at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002 and in Sochi in 2014 as well as in the qualifying tournaments for the Winter Games in Turin in 2006 , Vancouver in 2010 and in Sochi in 2014 .
