The Pocsi district is located in the Arequipa Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​170 km². At the 2017 census, there were 493 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 670, in 2007 it was 602. The district administration is located in the 3047  m high village of Pocsi with 189 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pocsi is located 20 km southeast of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa .

Geographical location

The Pocsi district is located in the southeast of the Arequipa province. The district extends in the northeast to the 5665  m high Picchu Picchu volcano . The rivers Río Mollebaya and Río Poroto drain the area to the west.

The Pocsi district is bordered on the southwest by the district Quequeña , the west by the district Mollebaya , on the north by the district Characato , in the northeast to the districts of San Juan de Tarucani and Puquina ( province General Sánchez Cerro ) and in the south by the district Polobaya .
