Primera División (Uruguay) 1936

The 1937 season of the Primera División was the 34th season (the 6th of the professional era) of Uruguay's highest division in men's football , the Primera División .

The Primera División consisted of ten clubs in the championship season of 1937, whose teams met twice in a total of 90 championship games. There were 18 game days. Club Atlético Peñarol won the championship as first in the table in front of the second and third-placed clubs Nacional Montevideo and Montevideo Wanderers . A relegated team was not determined that season. However, the bottom of the table Club Atlético Defensor initially wore a relegation game against the last place in the 1936 season, Racing Club de Montevideo . Racing, which emerged as a loser from the game with a 4-1 defeat, then had to contest a relegation round to stay in class against Liverpool FC , who had qualified as champions of the Divisional Intermedia in 1937 . Both teams each won a game 4-1. In the third meeting, Liverpool FC retained the upper hand 1-0 and rose to the Primera División. Nevertheless, despite the defeat, Racing was allowed to remain in the top Uruguayan league, which was increased to eleven clubs for the following season. The top scorer was Horacio Tellechea with 16 goals .
