Freist is a village in the town of Gerbstedt in the eastern district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany.

Geographical location

Freist is located on the Mansfelder Platte approx. 15 km northeast of Eisleben . The districts lie along the Fleischbach . Zabitz and Oeste are in the far east, still almost in the Schlenzetal , the two villages have already grown together. In Oeste, the road to Beesenstedt in the Saalekreis turns off the main road in the village . To the west of the double village is the district of Freist with its distinctive church, it is the largest of the districts. Here some rivulets flow into the Fleischbach, whose valley begins to deepen. In the Reidewitz district to the west of Freist, the slopes of this valley are already partially wooded. The most southeastern part of the village is Elben, it is already further away from the other parts of the village that are close together. Elben has its own small chapel and is pretty much in a ravine. From the village the path leads to Bösenburg , which no longer belongs to Freist. To the south of Oeste lies the Dörlitz desert .

Local division

The districts of Freist, Elben , Oeste, Reidewitz and Zabitz belong to the village of Freist . Königswiek, the southern part of Oeste is no longer mentioned as a district today.

history

In 992 the districts of Freist were first mentioned in a document, King Otto III. donated the villages of Riedauuizi (Reidewitz), Frezisci (Freist), Siabudisci (Zabitz) and Osutiscie (Oeste), among other places , to the Quedlinburg Monastery with the stipulation that the income would flow to the Walbeck Collegiate Church .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Elben, Oeste-Königswiek, Reidewitz and Zabitz were incorporated.

By means of an area change agreement, the municipal council of the municipality of Freist decided on January 7th, 2010 that the municipality of Freist should be incorporated into the unified municipality of Gerbstedt. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 24, 2010.

After incorporating the previously independent municipality of Freist, Freist, Elben, Oeste, Reidewitz and Zabitz become districts of the city of Gerbstedt. For the incorporated municipality, the local constitution according to §§ 86 ff. Of the municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt is introduced. The incorporated municipality of Freist and future districts of Freist, Elben, Oeste, Reidewitz and Zabitz will become the locality of the receiving city of Gerbstedt. A local council with a local mayor is formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Freist.

Buildings

One of the oldest houses is the widow's house, built in 1520. The town's landmark is the listed Holy Cross Church.

Economy and Infrastructure

It is approx. 10 km to the east to federal highway 6 , which connects Halle (Saale) and Aschersleben .
The nearest train stations are in Lutherstadt Eisleben, Sandersleben and Hettstedt.
