The Rennweg is an old trade route that runs across the ridge south of the Möhne in the Arnsberg Forest . Today a main hiking route of the same name of the Sauerland Mountain Association leads over the route .
The historical trade route
The beginning of the Rennweg is west of the gatehouse on the banks of the Möhneseesee . From this point the hiker can hike along the gently rising ridge through the Arnsberg Forest to Hirschberg , a district of Warstein .
The Rennweg runs south parallel to the Haarstrang , which in the Soest area forms the border between the north German lowlands and the low mountain ranges.
North of the Möhne on the Haarstrang lies the old trade route Haarweg and south of the Rennweg between Hirschberg, Warstein and the Ruhrtal lies the higher Plackweg on the ridge line .
The main hiking route of the SGV
A 103 km long hiking trail of the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV) on the same route is also referred to as the Rennweg . It leads from Neheim via Torhaus, Forsthaus Rißmecke, Warstein, Rüthen , Meiste , Büren , Wewelsburg , Gellinghausen and Hamborn Castle to Paderborn .
The hiking trail falls into the category of the main hiking trails of the SGV and, like all the other main hiking trails, has the white St. Andrew's cross X as a signpost , extended by the number 26 at intersections.
