Reto Nay has worked in various media that see themselves as Roman Catholic, such as the radio station Radio Horeb , the Internet television K-TV , Radio Maria , the online magazine kath.net , the Catholic-traditionalist specialist journal Theologisches , the video portal gloria.tv and the right-wing extremist blog kreuz.net (for the last-mentioned websites, see also section controversies ).

Pastoral care

In 1991 Nay was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Chur. According to his own statements, in 2002 he moved to the northern Moldovan city of Băl 2002i . In his book Der heilige Schein, the theologian David Berger claims that Nays disappeared in the period before Bishop Kurt Krenn's resignation in connection with the scandal surrounding the download of child pornographic photos in the St. Pölten seminary in July 2004. Reto Nay described this depiction as Defamation: He left the International Theological Institute after the end of the semester in agreement with the institute management in 2002.

From 2002 to 2006 Nay worked in Moldova according to his own statements in social projects and as a temporary priest in the north of the non-EU country. From September 2006 until his dismissal in March 2013, which was founded with his work for the video portal gloria.tv , Nay looked after the Catholic parish of the mountain village Sedrun ( Tujetsch parish ) as a pastor, for whose position he is at the instigation of the later bishop of Diocese of Chur , Vitus Huonder , had applied.

Controversy

Reto Nay's activities on the websites kreuz.net and gloria.tv are controversial and have led, among other things, to repeated conflicts with his diocesan bishop Vitus Huonder.

Case «kreuz.net»

In February 2012, he agreed to the publication of several of his articles on the website kreuz.net, which the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution had classified as unconstitutional, and was then cited for an interview by the Diocese of Chur . In June 2012, the Bishop of Chur, Vitus Huonder, stated that it was not appropriate for a priest in his diocese to publish on kreuz.net.

On December 2nd, 2012 kreuz.net was shut down; In August 2013, the kreuz.net computer was also confiscated during a house search of the two priests working on gloria.tv in Austria. Reto Nay and Markus Doppelbauer were named as the only employees of gloria.tv in the priesthood; the employee list has meanwhile been deleted.

Case «gloria.tv» and impeachment

Reto Nay is co-founder, active employee, authorized signatory and sole authorized signatory of the multilingual video portal gloria.tv. At the same time he is one of the two priests working for gloria.tv alongside Markus Doppelbauer.

On January 22, 2009, a text belittling the Holocaust was published on gloria.tv . Nay refused to delete the comment to the church newspaper of the Diocese of Linz on the grounds that "the whole Catholic spectrum is needed". The media law expert Walter Berka stated that there was a serious suspicion of a violation of the law prohibiting National Socialist re- employment. Nay stated that Austrian or German law was not relevant for gloria.tv, as the website was registered in Moldova .

On February 3, 2012, gloria.tv reported on an undercover campaign by ProLife supporters. The abortion opponents had therefore checked in October 2011 with the help of a private investigator whether Catholic clinics in Cologne prescribed the morning-after pill. The gloria.tv presenter Eva Doppelbauer called the names of the gynecologists who recommended emergency practices to the pseudo patient, where doctors worked “from the orbit of the abortion company Pro Familia ”, “in a denunciation style” . After an author from kreuz.net had informed the Archdiocese of Cologne about this, two rape victims were denied treatment and evidence preservation in Catholic hospitals in Cologne in December 2012.

On February 18, 2013, the English version of gloria.tv showed pictures of German bishops with swastikas because they had allowed the morning-after pill in the hospitals of their dioceses. The German Bishops' Conference expressly distanced itself from the website and announced that in future content from the church website kirche.tv may no longer be used by gloria.tv. The television editors of the Diocese of Würzburg had already deleted their channel on gloria.tv in mid-January . The daily blessing, which was produced under the care of the German Bishops' Conference, had to be removed from gloria.tv on February 20, 2013 following a prohibition order from the Catholic television work center. Burkhard Hose, pastor of the Catholic university community in Würzburg , filed a criminal complaint against gloria.tv for using symbols of unconstitutional organizations .

The Chur bishop Vitus Huonder asked Nay on February 20, 2013 to remove the offensive website from gloria.tv. Shortly after it was founded, Huonder had distributed a letter of recommendation for gloria.tv and provided the station with ideal support until 2013. As a result, Nay claimed that he was not responsible for the English-language texts and that he could not remove them. According to the diocese spokesman Giuseppe Gracia, the bishop did not feel entitled to take any further steps. At the same time, Bishop Huonder emphasized that employees in his diocese should not spread or support any defamatory or inflammatory ideas. However, Nay's further activity for gloria.tv was not prohibited.

In March 2013, gloria.tv described reporters from Spiegel TV who had researched the video portal in Switzerland as “stalkers” and accused them of Nazi methods ; gloria.tv used the swastika again, this time combined with the Spiegel TV logo. Before that, there had been violent attacks in Graubünden between employees from gloria.tv, including Reto Nay, and the Spiegel TV team. On March 11, 2013, the Bishop of Chur, Vitus Huonder, requested the headquarters of gloria.tv to delete all files associated with him from the website. On March 12, 2013 the Tujetsch community president Pancranzi Berther demanded the dismissal of Nays by the local bishopric if the priest did not resign from his work at gloria.tv and clearly distance himself from its activities. Berther added that his village did not want to be “a nest of extremists ”. On the same day there was a violent attack by three employees from gloria.tv on a camera team from RTL, in which an employee of the camera team from RTL was slightly injured.

On the evening of March 13, 2013, Reto Nay was released without notice from the Tujetsch parish . The diocese of Chur asked him to resign immediately from his work as pastor; otherwise the missio canonica would be withdrawn from him.

In March 2013, the Graubünden canton police initiated an investigation in connection with gloria.tv. The possible criminal offenses were not disclosed. On March 15, 2013, Nay was also removed from office by Bishop Huonder. Nay attributed this to a «witch hunt» on gloria.tv. The parish office in Sedrun announced on March 15, 2013 that Reto Nay had disappeared the day before and could no longer be found. Nay has remained in hiding since then. From April 2013, Nay preached again on gloria.tv and reported to the diocese of Chur, his whereabouts remained initially unknown.

On August 29, 2013 the name "gloria.tv" was removed from the name of the operating company; Reto Nay remained the sole authorized signatory under Doina Buzut. The new legal notice set up by gloria.tv in 2014 no longer names the operators and specified Moscow as their new headquarters. In 2017, the seat was relocated to Dover, Delaware, USA.

According to information from gloria.tv, Nay worked on the Greek island of Patmos in the following years . According to articles on gloria.tv, he preached in November 2017 in St. Pelagiberg (St. Gallen) in Switzerland.
